Joyeux Nöel

Saturday, January 2, 2016

This year we started a new tradition for Christmas; one of us would choose a country and we'd try to celebrate the holidays in their traditional way. It was my turn first and I choose France. It was really fun learning about their traditions and trying to make all of the amazing food they eat!
We learned that they celebrate on Christmas Eve with le réveillon or a 5 hour dinner, ending with la Buche de Nöel and coffee. They put their shoes by the tree which they fill with candy and such, and open gifts at midnight with champagne. The left over feast is enjoyed on Christmas Day.
We started our réveillon with a selection of cheeses, smoked salmon and various fruits and of course French baguettes.
Then we had roast turkey with cranberry sauce, cheese soufflés, asparagus with hollandaise, bussel sprouts, roasted potatoes and green beans:

Finally the Yule log or la Buche de Nöel:
and champagne:
we added fruit and chambord to it! Also there was lots of red wine and so many cookies, from palmiers to macarons!
Then gifts:
We each got a sewing kit from Maison Sajou in France, a long coveted item!
It was amazing and we definitely enjoyed this Christmas and all agreed to revisit and expand on the French traditions as best we could.

Elayna and I took a driving tour around the white mountains of New Hampshire and had a picnic...as unicorns. It was a great day! (^v^)

I want to update y'all just a little bit since I am sweater-deep in my holiday knitting and I'm trying not to go to long between posts.
First my friend sent some cute shots of her in the sweater I made:
Damn woman has lost way too much weight though so I will have to make her a new one, aw shucks!
I completed my dresser:
and I knitted some dog costumes for my sister's business, ruffled pups.
Currently I'm knitting unicorn hats for Elayna and me. Here's Nilla modeling a horn:
More on our crazy unicorn antics to come
till then Happy Haunting (•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑

Kyrie has been living in NYC for awhile, occasionally comes to visit mom and even though her room has been mostly boxes she never said anything about it. But when she announced she would be bringing her new bf this time well mom had to make some quick adjustments. So I surprised her!

After all this the room was cleaned, boxes gone and with a new bedspread we have this:
Apartment living is a challenge sometimes and even though the room is small and without a closet, it's pretty cute. And she was happy, which is why we moms do these things 💕
Special thanks to my sister Pam for all the awesome ideas! Love that woman 💕
