Out of the 6 pairs of mittens I had planned to knit, 4 are complete. I
still have to knit the pair for Kyrie, which is quite an undertaking
and the pair for myself, of course will be done last.
Knitting
has taught me a lot of things about myself as a person. Firstly, I'm not
a fan of doing the same thing over and over, especially for long
periods of time. Oh I can do it but the speed at which I work
continually slows down to a crawl.
Secondly, if it seems
difficult, I instantly want to do it. The first sweater I ever knit was
an argyle vest and at that time I was still new enough to knitting that I
obsessed about every stitch.
Which brings me to the third
realization, if its a new skill I'm learning, I'm crazy about the
details. One of the first hobbies I really sunk my teeth into was
cross-stitch, which is still my absolute first love. But I did a picture
for my sister for her wedding, you know something simple like the Lavender and Lace design,
of course the colors were customized to match hers, down to a mustache
on her husband and satin finish to her dress. It took me 10 years to
complete!
Fourth, I am curious beyond reason. I don't just want
to look at something, I want to experience it with all my 5 senses! This
was something that I've always known but with knitting it's everything
and it's overwhelming! There's endless possibilities for me to revel
in.
Which brings me to the last realization well its really more
of a acknowledgement and one that I am consciously working on changing, I
will immerse myself into something until I've basically sucked it dry
and killed any want to continue with it. I like to refer to it as my
internal shelf-life and it's about 5 years. After that I get antsy. So
I'm slowing down on knitting, my stash is too large to kill ⊙﹏⊙
